The Dune RPG, with apologies to the Great German...
So I put my copy of the Dune RPG on eBay. I'm just not a real hardcore collector save for the stuff I want to mine for future PTA games ("Planescapers!" "The Blue Planet" "Warriors of Tribe 8" etc).

So I took some time, used my mad eBay skillz to provide a pretty good description of the game, injecting a casual feeling and a little humor. And set the price dog-low.

Day One: $30.00
Day Two: $31.75
Day Three: $177.50

In my experience, this price probably won't change until the last 30 seconds of the auction, where I expect it to rise another $20-30, maybe more inshallah.

It's just kinda weird. I'm wondering if this is the single most expensive RPG collector's item that:
* Is not unique ("Gygax's personal Players' Handbook!")
* Is not totally limited ("The three copies of the Fiend Folio that were printed upside down" etc)

Wow, dude. With $177 you could almost buy enough books to play D&D.

Green tea surprisingly is not uncomfortable when violently snorted, this I have discovered.

Oh, the "Great German" thing...

...I was referring to Jurgen: Was gonna sell it to him for a C-Note, but Jurgen had better things to buy.

Which is good, because:
* Seriously? As a collector's item it might be worth that much, but as a playable game it's only worth about $15.
* Oh, and that extra cash will be sweet. I'm putting it to fitness gear.

But it is limited. There are other copies selling for over $200! Wow...

Hmm, I think I'm going to go looking around for a copy...

We've got several used bookstores and a gaming shop in the area that sits on old stuff for no reason (i.e. he never puts anything on sale and has tons of oWoD and 3.0 d20 stuff just collecting dust).

Is there any particular reason it's selling for so much so consistently? Are Dune fans just crazy?

I think that could be a lot of it as well. I ended up getting my two copies from friends who went to that GenCon where it was released (I think it was $30 per copy or something). They consistently hit $150-200 on eBay because us Dune fans tend to get a little nuts when it comes to (the very rare) merch/crossover releases.

I mean, I hear that some Dune fans even read those new Brian Herbert books supposedly set in the Dune universe. That's how crazy some folks are. CRAZY!

I didn't know the backstory of the game.

No need to apologize, I'm glad that it's making you some good money! I'd rather play Jihad - Burning Sands, anyway!

As to Burning Sands...amen, seitch-brothers.

Andy, your write-up of the book is hilarious.
